Four Insights from my Reader Survey

A few weeks back I launched my reader survey. Thanks to all who participated and shared your thoughts. The response exceeded my expectations and I am pleased to have learned more about my community of readers. I believe it will benefit all of you because it will help me improve my content, expand the ways I communicate with you, and broaden the ways I can support you.

A “reader profile” would look like this.

  • My readers are almost equally male and female.
  • The primary age is 45+, while there is a large constituency between the ages of 25-34.
  • The role identified as the most important in your lives, as well as the role you would most like to improve was nearly a toss-up.
    • Spiritual/Faith
    • Husband/Wife
    • Father/Mother
  • The content you would like to see most?
    • Motivational/Inspirational
    • Goal setting/Achievement/Success
    • Leadership/Parenting (nearly equal)
  • The greatest challenges you face in pursuing your dreams and goals?
    • Motivation - sustaining effort through the finish line.
    • Overcoming obstacles and setbacks.
    • Setting specific goals/managing the achievement process.

Based on the feedback and comments, I have come to four conclusions:

  1. Increase my communication. Every respondent said they appreciated the email newsletter notifications. I have been sensitive about crowding your inbox. However, it was clear that readers want to be notified when there is new material to read.
  2. Focus on encouragement with a purpose. A common theme among readers is the What was motivation to grow in your most important roles and achieve important goals and dreams. I know performance increases when we receive regular and consistent encouragement. Performance also increases when we have the right tools. I will strive to focus on creating content that is encouraging and provides well researched and supported tools you can use and apply.
  3. Support spiritual growth and development. While my faith is the foundation for my content I have not written about how to improve this role. Going forward I will give this more thought as I develop content to share.
  4. Develop a podcast. While I do not know who responded to my survey, I think I am safe in assuming many were individuals who have heard me speak in the past. Over 95% of the respondents said they would listen to a podcast. I am not sure when I will do this but it is on my list. I am glad to know some of you still are interested in hearing me speak.

If you took the survey, thank you! I am dedicated to helping people get success right, and your input will help me continue to shape the content of this site to be a resource you are excited to read and share.

If you have more feedback or comments after reading about the survey. Leave a comment below. I would love to hear what you think.
