This quote has been taped to my computer screen for the last year. It reminds me that life is made up of experiences that provide us with exhaustive opportunities for learning. I like to say experience is inevitable, but learning is optional. A truth I have often ignored.
Hearing Tony Campollo speak live, a number of years ago, created a learning experience I ignored for years. It is hard to ignore Tony’s message. Tony is always passionate, convicted, and compelling.
On this particular evening he was so engaged and engaging he began to sweat. With sweat rolling down his face, his mission was clearly to move people to action. His message was simple and powerful. It could be summed up with a question.
How are you going to respond to God’s boundless love and use your gifts and talents in service?
I have been wrestling with this question for 25 years. Wrestling with questions is a way of saying I am waiting for a different answer. What do you do with answers to questions you don’t like?
For most of us, we push them aside and try our best to ignore them. But eventually, the answer is staring you right in the face and says, “You can’t ignore me any longer.”
