It was a great speech. I had never been as inspired and motivated as I was at that moment.
His words filled the gymnasium with enthusiasm and encouragement. People walking by were drawn into the doorways to listen as George Raveling, then head basketball coach as Washington State University, address a few hundred young men who were attending Coach Raveling's basketball camp.
Standing 6'7", Coach Raveling reached his hand up to over 8' with his palm down to the floor, paused for a moment, scanned across the bleachers with his eyes capturing the full attention of every single young man.
I will never forget what he said next,
"I imagine myself standing before God and he tells me you had this much ability," looking up at his raised hand, "and you only used this much of it", as he slowly lowered hand to his shoulder. "How disappointed would you be to find out you had the talent and ability to accomplish the great dreams God placed on your heart?"
Every day is a great day to dream.
Your talent and ability is greater than who you are today. What are your dreams? Today is a great day to dream about who you want to be, what you want to be, who you want to be surrounded by, who you want to help, and what kind of impact you want to have on the world.
How do you take those dreams and make them reality? Start with writing those dreams down. Dreams are not dependent upon your age. You will never be too young or too old to dream great dreams.
How do you get started? Do three things with focus, discipline and execution; pray, plan, and execute.
Pray: Because you are God's workmanship and he has has already planned for your success.
Plan: Because when you identify the skills you will need, who can help, anticipate the obstacles, and understand the needed investment you will know exactly what you need to do.
Execute: Because execution is the engine for your success. Execute your plan with unfailing commitment to the process and take steps towards making your dreams come true. It is a great day to dream!
