Not everyone does it, but you should! It’s simple, easy and powerful. Would you take five minutes to journal if you knew it could change your life for the better? Of course you would, who wouldn’t—right?
The development of this habit will make you a better leader, increase your impact and expand your influence. Don’t you think you can find five minutes a day to create the journal habit knowing it can change your life and those of the people you love and lead?
Less then 20% of Americans receive the necessary level of encouragement necessary to raise their performance.
Why do so many leaders, teachers, coaches and parents fail to use a tool that is readily available to them every day? Equally important is wondering why so called “soft skills” like encouragement are so undervalued and appreciated.
What is going on! Why are people who’s job it is to serve behaving so poorly? But maybe the more important question is why are the leaders of these company’s seemingly so surprised.

The text message read, “I am tired of living on the defensive, can you help?” I could have pecked out that text message many times. I think most of us could. We might say it any number of ways but it screams one thing—“I’m stuck, can you help me get unstuck.”
Stuck is that sinking feeling you have in the pit of your stomach that says you are on the defensive. It a position in the race where progress is halted and you begin drifting away from the finish you envision.
Impact! I think about creating impact every day. If you have thought for a moment about how you will be remembered, you have too! It’s your legacy—the level of impact you created with your time, talent and resources.
A few years ago, I read 20,000 Days and Counting. On your 20,000th day birthday you are 76 days shy of your 55th birthday. If you are short of this milestone, be forewarned it will arrive much more quickly than you think. If your days have stretched beyond 20,000, no one needs to remind you of the brevity of life.
Why would you make a change when things are going well? Who would think it good advice to abandon something in the midst of success?
A good thing is a good thing—right? It would be foolish to jump ship or change course when the view and the forecast looks perfect. But is it?

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Our chief want in life is to find someone who will make us do what we can.” Life is breathed into the “can” we can do by the right person, with the right word, at the right moment, delivering an essential truth in a loving and gracious way.
