The description from the book says is all. “Jesus’ impact on our world is highly unlikely, widely inescapable, largely unknown, and decidedly double-edged. It is unlikely in light of the severe limitations of his earthly life; it is inescapable because of the range of impact; it is unknown because history does not connect the dots; and it is double-edged because his followers have wreaked so much havoc, often in his name. He is history’s most familiar figure, yet he is the man no one knows. His impact on the world is immense and non-accidental.
Why read “Who is This Man?” First, Ortberg is a wonderful writer. His exceptional story telling ability challenges you to think in new ways. Ortberg examines the life of Jesus in the context of the culture, history, traditions and laws in a way that leaves an indelible mark. I really did not know who the historical Jesus was. Regardless of how you describe yourself in terms of spirituality and religion, you will see Jesus in a new light.
