Richard Stearns is the CEO of World Vision. In the midst of a very successful corporate leadership career, Stearns set aside his career ambition for something much more meaningful. As the CEO of World Vision, Stearns has traveled the world and witnessed the depth of poverty, hunger, homelessness and despair first hand. In this book, he describes how the gospel of Jesus Christ changed his life and his heart. A change that leads him raise the question of whether Christians have embraced the whole gospel or a gospel with a hole in it?
Why read “The Hole in the Gospel?” I read this book shortly after it was released in March of 2009. Read in comfort, it is convicting to think of all that can be done and needs to be done for a world in need. It will challenge you to look beyond your neighborhood and community and to think about what the world could look like if we really became the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. For the fully convicted Christian who is fully engaged in service and self-sacrifice, it may be a book that makes you wonder why such a case to fulfill the gospel has to be made. If that is the case, it is a great book to read and give to someone who does not share your conviction.
